Hanoi secured 2 First Prizes, 1 Second Prize and 1 Third Prize at this year's National Science and Technology Contest for high school students.

The projects that won the first prize of Hanoi participants include: Research on responsible consumption behavior of young people (Pham Nguyen Quang Huy, Pham Nguyen Gia Bao - Phan Huy Chu High School); Enhancement of the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 for environmental pollution treatment by surface plasmon resonance effect (Do Minh Quan 10 Chemistry 1, Nguyen Thien Luong 10 Informatics - Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted).

The projects that received the second and third prizes include: Research on microorganism strains to prevent phytophthora diseases on durian trees (Le Ngoc Minh, Dao Duc Minh - Phan Dinh Phung High School); Look&Tell - a solution to communication with the deaf using artificial intelligence (Ngo Minh Quang 11 Informatics, Mai Khoi Nguyen 11 Informatics - Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted).

Talking to a Dan Tri’s journalist, Ms. Tran Thuy Duong, Principal of Hanoi - Amsterdam School for the Gifted, said that the current treatment of environmental pollution and the search for alternative energy sources to fossil fuels is the right step towards sustainable societal development.

Among renewable energy sources, solar energy is a huge source of clean, green energy. Therefore, it is a global strategy to not only respond to the energy crisis but also deal with environmental issues utilizing this energy source.

A keen interest in chemistry plus the desire to learn about the impact of chemistry on environmental problems led the students to chose the research topic "Enhancement of the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 for environmental pollution treatment by surface plasmon resonance effect” and won the first prize.

The topic is highly relevant; the material decomposes well in a short time; the final product has high durability and is applicable in the treatment of environmental pollution by toxic substances.

For these reasons, Amsterdam High School's project passed the interviewing round and is now entitled to a slot in the upcoming International Science and Technology Contest.

From the selection lot of up to 88 topics participating in the City-level competition in many research fields, the Organizing Committee has judged and selected the very best four to enter the National round.

The team representing Hanoi - Amsterdam High School participated in the National Science and Technology Competition

After more than a month of preparation, the team attended the National Science and Technology Contest on March 26 & 2, 2022 in an online platform.

Following a series of praiseworthy achievements in the field of scientific and technical research, this year our Hanoi team secured secured 2 First Prizes, 1 Second Prize and 1 Third Prize.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the scientific and technical research contest has been a useful playground encouraging high school students to apply learned scientìic, technological and engineering knowledge when dealing with real-life problems.

The contest has indeed performed numerous functions: promoting innovation in the form of organization and teaching methods, reforming methods of tracking learning progess & assessing results, developing student learning capacity, improving the quality of Hanoi secondary education institutions. On top of that, the contest also served to create opportunities for high school students to express themselves intellectually by presenting novel personal initiative, as well as exposing other students all across Hanoi to the “fun side” of scientific research.
