As an Amser majored in Literature of session 1, Mrs Dang Nguyet Anh, who is famous for a number of “strange literature exam topics”, has always witnessed changes and developments of the beloved school named Hanoi – Amsterdam for the past 30 years. Now, let’s have a conversation with Mrs Nguyet Anh to have a deeper understanding of Ams after 30 years of forming and flourishing!
“When your hair turns grey, mine is still black…”
He started teaching our class when his retirement was less than half a semester to come. An old teacher with pepper-and-salt hair entering our class right on Monday morning made us somewhat reserved, as we children then regarded “old” as “boring”: a teacher heading for retirement like him could not teach us interesting things.
Teachers are guardians leading students through the vast sea of knowledge, committed and passionate, yet never do they voice their contribution to the development of students. However, for students, especially me, having been through those school years of so many pure and pleasant memories, it is impossible to forget about those devoted guardians. I am overwhelmed with feelings whenever I look back on the times I had with them because they are the ones who have raised me up, taught me to be more mature in both my actions and perceptions on life. Therefore, I would like to dedicate this article to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ngoc – our dearest Geography teacher, with much respect and love!
A SPECIAL LOVE
Le Minh Trang – English 1 (14-17)
The souvenir photograph of a journey. A novel read again and again countless times. A six-string guitar. These are all my beloved little things that everyone can find for themselves in life. However, I have a more special love: Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the school that has been my companion for over 4 years, and is going to be 7 years of my student life. Ams is the unbounded love that even the broadest arms cannot embrace
This 20/11/2014 is the 32nd anniversary of the Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (1982-2014) and it is also the third 20/11 that she is the form teacher of our class 12-History.
Goodbye to all the mischievous days of secondary school, we are now a member of 10 Chinese family of 40 members. And we cannot forget the lovely mother of 40 children, a mother who is not only always ready to share all joys and sadness with her children but also a gem lighting her children’s road to success. That is Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Thúy, the great dear mother of 10 Chinese. She is our form teacher as well as our Chinese teacher.

To me, Geography had always been every challenging, as I was not good at it and to be very honest I did not have much of any interest for this subject. That was until Mrs. Dinh Le Thi Thien Nga became my Geography teacher. Although I used to have unfavorable attitudes towards this particular subject, she has completely changed my point of view. |
Every head teacher is certainly special and unique to each class. But to me, you are even more special. You are so attentive and caring to all of us and maybe all the words I know aren’t able to fully describe you. You are like a caring yet strict mother when you teach us.
I soon had the chance to meet Mr Khuat Duy Dung a year before I was admitted to Hanoi – Amsterdam High School. At that time, I was still a 9th grader who was urgently revising for the test for Ams’ History major – my long-lived dream. During that strenuous revision period, I had a deeper understanding about him, the person who then became the respectable homeroom teacher of our class 10History.
Professor Nguyễn Văn Lê once quoted a thinker on the teaching occupation: "If a jeweler damages a piece of precious metal, he can mould it again. If a gemstone is spoiled, it can be destroyed... To spoil a person is a sin, an irreversible transgression." Not only do teacher impart knowledge, they also teach humanity. They are the pines on the slopes of hills, the cinnamons in the middle of the thick forest, subtly fragrant with their intellectual contribution. Perhaps, for all student generations of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, there is one thing from the bottom of our hearts that we would never forget: our gratitude for the teaching staff, the rowers that guide us aboard on the river of life.
