The 2014 competition was started at the beginning of the school year 2014-2015 with the participation of nearly 200 Secondary Schools and over 600 High Schools in Hanoi. The Organizing Committee has chosen 85 projects by 151 students from 38 schools to participate in the Final Round of the competition. As usual, schools with multiple projects are Chu Văn An High School with 12 projects, Hanoi-Amsterdam with 10 projects, Kim Liên High School, Nguyễn Huệ and Nguyễn Tất Thành High School with 5 projects each. Apart from the public schools section, this year saw the participation of the private school Tạ Quang Bửu with 1 project.

In categories like Technology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, the students have brought many valuable projects such as: Module changing water into usable water using metal grid and nebulizer,  Research on increasing the efficiency of solar batteries using photosynthesis elements, Research on producing biogas in the shortage of water, Assess the toxicity of tartrazine on the development of the embryos of seahorse, Effect of the size and concentration of the calcium nano particle in milk on the absorption of the body (Hanoi-Amsterdam High School), Using nano technology in insulin injection (Chu Văn An High School), Sterilizing by using the plasma wave from the microwave (Hanoi-Amsterdam High School)… Mr. Chử Xuân Dũng, vice president of Hanoi Education and Training Department, assessed that all the projects in this year competition are really practical in reality, solving problems in issue like education, communication,…, having a great social and humanities value, touching on many current issues like: the impact of the change in the testing method in 2015 on career choice among students, sovereignty and patriotism issue among the youths, saving energy, conserving the environment… “Some projects are scientifically creative, analyzing and using the information well, having clear technical target, having adopted critical thinking and experiments”, Mr.Dũng also commented.

Đậu Hoàng Quân and Trần Duy Anh Nguyên received the First prize for their project “Research on increasing the efficiency of solar batteries using photosynthesis elements”

On the basis of the projects in the competition, the Judging Panel will choose the best projects to take part in the ISEF competition held in 3/2015 in Bắc Ninh. And today, 12/12/2014, the judges have marked and announced the winners. The judges emphasized on the following criteria: creativity, scientific idea, thoroughness, skills and clarity. Incorporating with thorough discussion and cross-examination with the students, the judges have chosen 28 projects to award the prizes, including 5 First Prizes, 6 Second Prizes, 7 Third Prizes and 10 Consolation Prizes.

5 First Prizes of the fourth HASEF competition

The 5 First Prizes are awarded to the following projects: Module changing water into usable water using metal grid and nebulizer,  Research on increasing the efficiency of solar batteries using photosynthesis elements (From Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), Conveying life meanings to students through the art of photography (Chu Văn An High School), Research on producing material to deal with oil spill containing nano ferromagnetic particle (Nguyễn Tất Thành High School), Sterilizing water in the city by eliminating microcystins using Pseudomonas Flourescens bacteria (Nguyễn Huệ High School for the Gifted).

Sharing on his project about changing sea water into usable water, Nguyễn Doãn Hoàng (Class 11 Physics- Hanoi-Amsterdam High school) said that, they want to help fisherman living near the sea. “Fishermen really lack usable water in their everyday life. In some regions in the Middle of Vietnam, usable water is sold at the price 5 to 10 times more than normal. When sailing, fishermen have to carry with them usable water to use, which will take up a lot of places. We hope that our project will be able to help the fishermen to have more water and to have a more comfortable life”-Hoàng said. The method Hoàng used is distilling water through module using metal grid and nebulizer. This tool is easy to assemble and the fishermen could fix it by themselves.

Apart from 5 First Prizes, another 6 Second Prizes, 7 Third Prizes and 10 Consolation Prizes have been awarded to projects from Secondary students and High school students. Among the Second Prizes and Third Prizes, there are another 3 projects from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, increase the achievement of the school to 30% of all the Prizes awarded. With another 2 Consolation Prizes, out of ten projects, 7 projects from Hanoi-Amsterdam High school have awarded the final prizes (70%). This is a proud achievement of the school and totally deserves to be commended. In order to achieve this success, apart from the effort of Amsers, we could not omit the significant roles of our teachers from the Science groups who spend a great deal of time giving all the projects advices in order for them to achieve the most fulfilling ideas.

To end the fourth HASEF ceremony, the Hanoi Education and Training Department has launched the fifth competition, encouraged students to continue to use their creativity, dedicating themselves to all the scientific projects that will benefit the society.

Once again, I want to wish the 5 projects from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School that will proceed to the National ISEF competition to be held in 3/2015 in Bắc Ninh to keep the momentum and achieve the greatest success. What you guys have achieved is an encouragement to all Amsers to study and achieve the best results for the 30 years anniversary of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School.
