This morning, at 7.30 AM on July 5th, students and teachers of Hanoi - Amsterdam High school for the Gifted, together with all students of the Capital, took part in the online Opening ceremony for the 2021-2022 school year via Hanoi 1 TV station. Besides, our school was honoured to have the students of the year 18-21: Nguyen Duy Anh, Nguyen Le Thao Anh - 12 Chemistry 1; Nguyen Hoang Nam, Tran Quang Vinh - 12 Physics 1 receiving the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi Capital’s Certificate of merit and awards in the offline Opening ceremony held in Trung Vuong Highschool, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi (two alumni Do Bach Khoa - 12 Math 1; and Nguyen Manh Quan - 12 Physics 1 were also invited, though the distance prevented them from attending.)

Adhering to the protective measures of COVID-19, the event was concise, avoiding redundancy but solemn and retaining necessary procedures. During the offline Opening ceremony, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training read aloud the President’s celebratory letter for the Education industry. In addition, the President of the People's Committee of the city beat the traditional school drum to commence this academic year. The Meritorious Teacher and Vice Principal Bui Van Khuc as well as teacher Nguyen Trung Tuan, Le Manh Cuong and Nguyen Hong Hai were also heralded for their brilliant accomplishments in instructing the Team and excellent students for the International Olympic competitions.

Despite the difficulties of social distancing on the first day of school, the students had prepared in advance for the Opening ceremony with enthusiasm. The Representative board of the Parent Committee had given their assistance for adequate school supplies and new textbooks so that students could embark on a flawless academic year. Nonetheless, being separated by a technological screen could not tarnish this unforgettable memory in students’ minds. They proudly put on their uniforms and joined hands to welcome a jubilant school year.

After watching the Opening ceremony on television, students and their homeroom teachers gathered to have an online conference via the Zoom platform. There, all students got acquainted with the school traditions and watched some memorable moments as well as achievement highlights of the students and teachers in the year 2020-2021. Furthermore, 5 gold medalists in the 2021 International Olympic competitions had shared their experiences and new school year congratulations to the successors and teachers.

This was also an opportunity for Ams’ students and teachers to express their sentiments, wishes and goals for the forthcoming academic year.

The 2021-2022 Opening ceremony had ended on a spectacular note. Though there is much hardship and struggle that comes with studying online, with the parents' ceaseless support and the students’ diligence on the path of acquiring knowledge, a fruitful school year is guaranteed. May Amsers forever hold their heads up, reach further and fly higher to preserve the traditions and bring fame to the Ams name on national and worldwide contests.
