With a view to supporting the  people in Central Vietnam who have recently suffered from flooding, teachers and students of Hanoi-Amsterdam have been eager in raising a charity within the school.

In October 2016, heavy rain followed by a historic flood hasbrought devastation upon Central Vietnam. In many areas such as Thừa Thiên – Huế Province, Quảng Bình, Hà Tĩnh... thousands of houses are inudated with water, streets and fields have become rivers. According to report from the National Disaster Response Force, the 3-day-long rainstorm has caused 8 deaths and 10 missings. Specifically, Quảng Bình suffered the most with 6 deaths and 6 missings; Hà Tĩnh with 2 deaths, Thừa Thiên-Huế Province and Nghệ An each bore 1 death and 1 missing. The  downpour has also flooded and torn roofs of 26.000 houses, destroying more than 175 ha of crops.  To ensure the people’s safety, authorities have to relocate 140 families . Heavy rainstorm resulted in severe damage to the traffic system, for example, the Ho Chi Minh road that passes through the towns ofThượng Hòa, Minh Hóa in Quảng Bình is swamped 1m deep, 600m long. Many other routes through Quảng Bình, Hà Tĩnh are also deluged, leading to traffic jams or the erosion of talus slopes. The railroads from Đồng Hới to Lê Kỳ and La Khê railway station (Hà Tĩnh) are flooded 10 cm deep, halting the railway traffic. 8 towns in Quảng Bình and 4 towns in Hà Tĩnh are isolated. The citizens’ efforts for years have been wiped out by the deluge. The Central Vietnamese are suffering from hunger, thirst caused by the catastrophe.

With a spirit to protect and help one another in time of distress, compatriots and youths in all parts of the country are turning to the citizens of the Central Vietnam via different medias to promptly support, encourage, share with the affected people the burden. Following the spirits, the staff and students of Hanoi Amsterdam High School have joined hands to donate and give both mental and material support (money) to aid families suffering from the flood, to help students return to their study and to assist the unfortunate in confronting the disaster and settling down.

This act has great significance, because it embodies and promotes our nation’s unity. Therefore, over the last few days all teachers, parents and students in the school have been active in fund raising in class units. This charity is raised to attract donors for The Central regions; to educate students about sympathy, about aiding the unfortunate and being more responsible citizens.

The deadline for the donation is 24/10/2016, so we hope to receive generous contributions from parents, students along with the faculty to share the pain of the brethrens of Central Vietnam.

Thank you.
