Hanoi – Amsterdam High School’s achievements partly helped Hanoi to maintain its number 1 position in quantity and quality. Thanks to 10 First, 33 Second, 53 Third and 29 Consolation Prizes of which Hanoi-Amsterdam High School are responsible for 9, 26, 53 and 15 prizes, respectively, Hanoi took the lead in this year’s competition.

Hai Duong ranked second to Hanoi with 6 First Prizes. The former 2011-First-Prize leader – Nam Dinh – was in the third place, together with Vietnam National University, Thai Binh and Vinh Phuc.

In comparison to 2011 competition, the number of locals winning the First Prizes increased by 7. Reportedly, 27 locals won the First Prize and noticeably, there were 2 locals from Cuu Long River Delta (An Giang, Ben Tre) and 3 locals from Mountainous Northern areas (Son La, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen).

In terms of the total number of prizes, some provinces cherishing the tradition of capturing prizes failed to secure their positions this year such as Ha Nam with 47 prizes (60 prizes in 2011), Hai Duong with 67 prizes (72 prizes in 2012), Nghe An with 70 prizes (82 prizes in 2011),Hung Yen with 43 prizes (51 prizes in 2011),… On the other hand, some provinces celebrated  more significant achievements than last year such as Hai Phong with 78 prizes (75 prizes in 2011), Da Nang with 63 prizes (61 prizes in 2011), Nam Dinh with 83 prizes (81prizes in 2011),…

As can be seen annually, in case of the locals under difficulties in Cuu Long River Delta and Mountainous Northern Areas, the quantity and quality are relatively low such as Lai Chau, Bac Kan (1 prize), Hau Giang, Ca Mau (4 prizes),… And Particularly, Ca Mau decreased by 13 prizes compared to 2011.

This year, the number of teams increased by 3 (with the participation of the University of Vinh, the University of Hue, Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical Unversity) but the total number of prizes were fewer than last year. According to the Ministry of Education, 2074 claimed prizes in 2012, which comprised 49.85% out of the total number of participants in 2012, 4160 students) . 67 First Prizes, 348 Second Prizes, 816 Third Prizes and 843 Consolation Prizes were recorded. The number of students winning the First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize is 1231, occupying 59.35% out of the total number of student winners (in 2011, the total prizes are 2300).

According to the Ministry of Education’s new law, the students who win the First Prizes, Second Prizes or the Third Prizes in the 2012 National Excellent Student Competition will be directly admitted to various universities and those receiving the Consolation Prizes will be directly accepted to Institutes in an exact or nearly exact field as the subject you win. The students are not allowed to use the direct admission right or to sign up a different field from the subject they win. If they attend the university entrance examination without any 0 point as well as test results achieve the standard, the principal will consider and make priority admission decisions.
